The Graduate Fashion Foundation is an integral part of the industry, and a much loved organisation here at Boyfriend. Our magazine promise of ‘Celebrating successful creatives and showcasing emerging ones’ aligns entirely with the foundation, who have supported over 100,000 newly graduated and undergraduate students in following their careers in the industry post course completion since the foundations inception 28 years ago.

The foundation has supported some of the biggest names in the industry, including Christopher Bailey MBE, who was the winner of the first ever Gold Award and now a Lifetime Patron of the charity; Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and Julien MacDonald to name a few.

Dame Zandra Rhodes DBE RDI is an iconic figure within the UK fashion industry know for her British Punk aesthetic and bold use of colour. Rhodes is celebrating her 50th year of her brand this spring, so it should come as no surprise that this icon is joining as the seventh Lifetime Patron, alongside Christopher Bailey MBE, Victoria Beckham OBE, Vivienne Westwood DBE RDI, and Nick Knight OBE who were all appointed in 2016 during the charities 25th anniversary as well as Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski who were appointed in 2018.

Dame Zandra Rhodes DBE RDI, said:

“I have become a Patron for Graduate Fashion Foundation because I think it is a very important cause, supporting upcoming talent across the UK and internationally. My good friend Hilary Alexander asked me to get involved and it was a no-brainer! I think UK colleges are the best in the world and graduates and UK talent need this visibility which the charity offers.”

Rhodes’ new role for the Foundation will include being a judge for Graduate Fashion Week 2019 (which we’re very excited about) as well as playing an important role in finding fashion houses and retail brands to support the charity. The role of a Lifetime Patron can also offer a huge amount of knowledge and advice to the students following GFW, and help launch them into the industry in a positive way.

Martyn Roberts, Managing Director of Graduate Fashion Week, commented:

“We are delighted and privileged to announce that Dame Zandra Rhodes will join us as a Lifetime Patron. Zandra Rhode’s work has had a huge influence on fashion and British culture over her long spanning career. Her story is an inspiration to graduates to keep persevering and proof that hard-work pays off in the industry. Her influence on the judging panel is hugely welcomed by the charity.”
