Boyfriend favoured brand Tropic Skincare brought us some good news this past month. Over a lovely vegan breakfast in London’s Allbright, Tropic Founder Susie Ma introduced us to two new products in their skincare range, as well as the brand’s new partnership with the charity United World Schools.

I want Tropic to empower everyone, from our customers to our 12,000 ambassadors, our suppliers and our HQ Team. I was fortunate enough to have access to a good education in the UK, which has shaped my life in many ways. Around the world, 62 million children don’t have access to an education, so partnering with United World Schools was the perfect fit. Now, everytime our customers treat themselves to our products, they know they’re supporting children all over the world and helping to shape their futures too.”

With every £50 spend, Tropic fully funds a day of education where it’s needed most. With a goal to provide over a million days in 2019/20, which equals 5,000 children’s education for a whole school year.

From her beginnings at 15 years of age, when she started mixing her own products in her Mom’s kitchen and selling them in markets stalls to help her, to her time on The Apprentice and the brand she’s built today, she’s felt incredibly fortunate to be able to access the education she had, and she feels that giving that opportunity to other children around the world can help them change their lives.

In speaking with United World Schools, they told us that their goal isn’t purely to build schools, but to improve the existing infrastructures, engage the communities, and help them further their education, to that they can access better jobs and further help their communities.

The brand’s infinite purpose is to create a healthier, greener, more empowered world.

Not only are they supporting education for children in some of the most remote communities in the World, but empowering budding entrepreneurs and offering more opportunities to women in business. Their ambassadors (most of them women) are beauty business owners that sell their products across the country.

Tropic have been certified a Carbon Neutral company. They account for and double offset, all of their carbon emissions, from product deliveries to powering their HQ, by funding conservation work in the Amazonian rainforest and through this iniciative have also helped to protect 65,000 hectares of forest from unsustainable palm oil conversion in Indonesia. They’re also independently tested by the Think Dirty App, that verifies their ingredients are clean (ie toxin free).

Their new HQ is in a bespoke eco-building complete with living walls, tropical plants, a water recycling system and powered by renewable energy.

Furthering their responsible, ethical and sustainable shopping initiative, they are creating more refillable packaging (their makeup palette is completely refillable), reducing plastic waste (in 2018 they sent only 0.52% of their waste to landfill) and offer a buyback scheme across some of the product ranges.

In continuing with their inovative approach to clean, green beauty, the two new products are serums that target skin glow and hydration.

The Glow Berry Brightening Serum was created to help reduce the appearance of dark spots, sun damage and fight free-radicals. Combining a new form of stable, encapsulated vitamin C with supercharged natural extracts of Australian superberries, kangaroo paw flower and tranexamic acid, this clinically tested serum with proven results, actively reduces the appearance of sun damage on skin and delivers a more even complexion by counter acting the effects of free radicals, brightening the skin and evening out skin tone. Created after Tropic founder Susie Ma completed a Strive Charity expedition, in which she swan, cycled and hiked her way from Sardinia to the summit of Mt.Blanc. Having been continuosly exposed to intense sun, she noticed sun spots had appeared on her face. Glow Berry was her answer to that.

Due to the fresh nature of the ingredients, it’s recommended you keep in it the fridge after opening to slow down degradation.

The Rainforest Dew Hydration Serum was inspired by K-beauty’s philosophy that hydration is the key to great skin. With Multi-molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid for continual hydration, Plant peptides to stimulate collagen production and Evergreen fern and Matcha Tea extracts to soothe irritated skin and reduce redness, independent clinical tests have proved a 46% hydration increase over a 7 day period, being used twice a day and Transepidermal water loss was reduced by 17%.

Both serums took 2 years to develop and are entirely made of plant derived ingredients. Refills come with a screw cap, so you need only keep the dropper and you can recycle or upcycle the empty bottles anyway you choose. What are you waiting for to join the #serumrevolution?
