‘Every Sun Has To Set’. Words that emblazoned the final look shown at the Qasimi AW20 runway show, and beautifully echoed the tribute to the late Founder Khalid Al Qasimi.
We knew when the invites landed, that this show would be an emotional one, loaded with the passing of Khalid Al Qasimi in July 2019, we prepared ourselves for a show that expressed the grief in losing their founder, whilst also showing us their future ideals, which is something the late designer would have been extremely passionate about as we have seen with previous seasons growth and development.
This AW20 collection was still designed and directed by Khalid, but as his twin sister will continue his legacy, the collection echoed the brands perseverance and evolution at this time. ‘Renewal, Rebirth, Immortality’ were words embroidered on several of the garments alongside a coiled serpent which represents infinity and continuity, all key themes that reinforce the collections theme of daily renewal.
‘Every Sun Has To Set’
The brand has stayed true to what it’s known for in its urban nomad aesthetic, but the tailoring was more closely cut, giving a slightly more sophisticated feel to the collection.
The deep moss greens and persian plums showcased the beauty of the natural tones in this collection, as they juxtapose against the monochrome concrete and marble tones. This paired with the beautiful fusion between rich velvet fabrics and more hardened pleathers and PVC’s, gave a new romantic adaptation on the brands street style they’ve come to be known for.
I personally adored the previous collection, so it was with a great sadness, but also great joy, as I watched this new season unfold on the runway, showcasing the designers ability to evolve, grow, adapt, and continue to push, and I am excited to see the future of the brand as his family continues to keep his dream and his legacy alive.
