OFF THE RUNWAY! EDWARD CRUTCHLEY AW20

Traditionalism meets contemporary workmanship as the talented Edward Crutchley delivered his AW20 collection.

Crutchley has made quite the name for himself in the industry, known in particular for his beautiful textile designs and his attention to details. This collection continued his exploration of extravagance and opulence, the use of monochromes and metallics gave it a dark gothic tone, combined with the beautiful prints and pops of bright amethysts and mandarins, it gave traditional decorum a real ‘twist’.

The song choice for the show also highlighted the reference point, as Crutchley selected a song from RuPauls Drag Race – ‘Opulence, you own everything’ by Mercedes Iman Diamond (possibly one of my favourite moments from the show), which shows the designers sense of humour and ability to stay current.

I have always adored Crutchleys designs, and I believe he is one of our most talented menswear designs we have in the UK at present, not surprising considering how long he spent at Kim Jones’ side, but Crutchley has found his own aesthetic, and created a brand that explores elegance, cultural references, and the fun vibrancy that fashion has to offer.
