Sequins, seaside, glitter, and glamour reigned supreme with Ashley Ishams new SS19 collection – and it gave me everything I needed from a fashion collection, from editorial pieces for shooting, to more commercial pieces.

The collection gave me what I call the ‘peacock’ effect – dressing to impress and showcasing those beautiful feathers to attract others around you, and I’m sure you’ll agree, it is certainly a SHOWcase (we even had men in short shorts, which everyone knows I’m a huge fan of, and I even got papped pulling the most hilarious face when they came out!) with the absolutely divinely gorgeous current reigning winner of BNTM Ivy Watson walking in the show.
With seaside references running throughout, it took me back to a time when people would go on holiday and utilise that time to showcase their elegance, almost like the French Riviera meets Blackpool Pleasure Beach (what a fab combination!)

The metallic fringe was used heavily within the collection, a slight nod to the camp disco diva that Ashley loves to dress for, but at times this could have been used differently to enhance the designs more, for example, some of the use of the fringe incorporated with the beautiful seaside inspired prints could have been edited out, because the prints were so beautiful, just allowing them to speak at their own volume would have worked.

I did see a lot of references to gay culture in the collection too, the black and white swimsuit reminded me of The Vixens recent black and white summer hat dress from RuPauls Drag Race, and the metallic fringe umbrellas reminded me of April Carrions umbrella (I too have also shot a metallic fringe umbrella) so there was nothing unique there, but it was a beautiful way to create drama and effect.

My absolute standout pieces were the blue and green leaf floral shirts (both mens and ladies) as I feel these are the most commercial pieces and will sell in large volumes, the sequin two-tone purple and teal pieces (literally all of them! The mens sports jacket – which I really need in my life – the mens smoking jacket, the ladies dress) it’s beautiful and will shoot amazingly well, whilst also appealing to a large commercial audience.

Overall – it was a fab show, that gave me the camp thrills, the beautiful elegance, and released my inner disco diva – and it ended my Day 1 of Fashion Week with a glittering bang – thank you Ashley.
