The “Sweet but Psycho” singer has had over 1 billion global streams to date, so it’s not surprising that she has been nominated for “Best New Artist” at this years MTV VMA’s alongside the likes of Lizzo and Billie Eilish and more.
On releasing these next 2 instalments, Max had this to say:
“‘Freaking Me Out’ and ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ are two songs I am so excited to finally have out in the world. The first is about realizing that you’re in love with someone to a degree that feels almost beyond your control and the second is about giving all of yourself to someone you love and sticking by their side no matter what. I can’t wait for everyone to hear and hopefully relate to these new songs.”
“Freaking Me Out” is a more stripped back version of the artists sound, showing us her versatility and vulnerability, whilst maintaining her edgy lyrics like ‘Like a spider, there’s a web that you have wove, there’s a heart now, where there used to be a ghost’.
“Blood, Sweat & Tears” is a continuation of the Ava Max brand and sound, providing us with a bit of pomp and circumstance with it’s anthemic tempo and brassy bass. Max’s vocals linger hauntingly on the chorus ‘Throw my heart out on the pavement, cut it up and take it, I just wanna die with you, So baby you can take my blood, sweat, tears, ah-ooh’
We adore Ava Max because she is giving us pure pop music, with a deeper, more edgy message, and whilst she is drawing inspiration from the likes of Madonna, Gaga and Porcelain Black, Max has a way of standing on her own, and showing us how her identity is authentically her.
