Givenchy L’Interdit Eau de Parfum, RRP £69.00 for 50ml, (also available in 35ml and 80ml) released exclusively from the 12th of September at

In 1957 Hubert de Givenchy created his ever first fragrance for his long life friend and creative muse, Audrey Hepburn.

When Hubert asked Audrey if he could commercialise the fragrance which had originally been intent exclusively for her, she jokingly replied “Je vous l’interdis!” – “I forbid you!”.

In 2018 the Givenchy house has reinvented it.

We had the pleasure here at Boyfriend to go to the exclusive press launch and learn about the history behind the fragrance. It was with utmost rapture that we listened to how Givenchy developed his friendship with Hepburn, created his first fragrance and later in life, just before he passed, proudly signed off for the final time on the creation of this intriguing tribute to his original scent.

A beautiful blend of fresh and floral orange blossom, jasmine and tuberose top notes and dark woody patchouli, vetiver and ambroxan base notes, this fragrance plays perfectly into Givenchy’s love of dichotomy, light and dark, black and white, shock and chic.
From packaging to scent, everything plays with contrast and the thrill of breaking boundaries.
The bottle is a revamped tribute to the original and was designed with soft edges, like a square pebble that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and is meant to symbolise the chic androgyny of both Hepburn and the new face of L’Interdit: actor Rooney Mara.
Still quintessentially Givenchy, it’s a modern take on a classic fragrance.
