Let’s Talk Chok Beauty

Most of us beauty geeks (let’s admit it folks, we are geeks) spend many a day looking for the ideal product, the perfect foundation, the best moisturiser, the newest device. Enter Chok Beauty. This game-changing beauty brand came about with their Ionic Skin Perfector device, which was funded by Kickstarter and inspired by K-beauty routines (double cleansing and 12 steps of skincare for a glass-like glowing complexion). From the Korean “Chok Chok” (which literally translates as moist or damp), which is used as an expression when talking about skin and skincare and then it translates to ‘bouncy, dewy, fresh, luminous complexion’’.  Wanting to simplify routines whilst offering maximum performance, founder Adriana Motta came up with a 3-in-1 device that does more! The device also got raving reviews in the BBC’s ‘The Customer Is Always Right’ Reality TV Show, bringing its status to must-have device at record speed! The brand has since their launch in 2019 created a few more essentials and we’ll cover those here also.

Ionic Skin Perfector, RRP £99.00

The Ionic Skin Perfector is a one of a kind beauty tool designed to complement skincare routines through ultra-infusing skincare products (up to 98% product absorption in just 2 minutes), while deep cleansing (7 times more effectively than hand cleansing alone) and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The unique ionic thermo-infusion technology of the Skin Perfector stimulates the absorption of skincare products by opening the pores and reaching the lower layers of the skin in just 2 minutes. The ionic generator eases the penetration of creams and serums and increases the amount of product absorbed by the skin cells magnifying the desired effect in just a few days of use. It also has Light Therapy technology that penetrates deep into pores to soothe acne and smooth out fine lines and Nano Sonic vibration that enhances the skin’s cleansing process by removing the impurities and unclogging blocked pores.

The device is waterproof and rechargeable, delivering 500 uses per full charge and it should be cleaned after each use, rinsing with warm water and drying thoroughly.

I’ve used skincare devices for some time, and this one has the unique feature of being able to be used to help remove makeup also, as with similar cleansing devices, they can only be used to cleanse but not to remove makeup. By fitting a cotton pad into the device ring, you can use it to power up and power through your makeup removing and cleansing routine. Only con I found when doing this was that, although it claims you can use any cotton pad with it, I found my regular ones were too thick to be able to fit into the device (I use the Muji unbleached cotton pads), making that feature null for me unless I purchase thinner ones or peel my current ones in half (which I find rather annoying, as it defeats the purpose of a thicker cotton pad to begin with). But if you do use other thinner pads, it does work a treat! And considering the brand does some amazing reusable bamboo pads (we’ll talk about them some more in a bit), maybe looking into a way where those can fit into the device is in the works?

I’ve used all the functions the device has, and I can honestly say that it works amazingly well. Using the Ionic Generator accelerates the absorption of all my skincare products and leaves my skin with a gorgeous healthy glow to it. Which is absolutely what you want. You can also use the device to gently massage the contours of your face, adding another layer of anti-ageing benefits to this device. Also, you can use it with any of your already existing sheet masks or skincare. And since it’s a 3-in-1, ideal to take when travelling, as you’ll need to pack only the one device. A total must-have!

Reusable Makeup Remover Pads, RRP £14.00 for a pack of 6 (or £19.00 for a pack of 3 XL pads)

These Korean inspired reusable makeup remover pads completely wipe off makeup and gently exfoliate the skin. Made of silky nanofibres 100 x thinner than a human hair and 200 x thinner than a strand of silk, these super fine fibres are ionically charged due to the open spaces between the fibres, attracting makeup, dirt and impurities while using just water, giving you a super gentle, deep cleanse.

If you’re already a fan (like we are here at Boyfriend) of sustainable, product free, makeup remover pads (like Face Halo), you’ll love these. They are a great chemical-free alternative to traditional cleansers designed to remove even the toughest of makeups, including waterproof or to remove face masks or – if you still love to use them – cleansers. They even suggest you use the pink pad to remove light makeup, the white for skincare and the black or purple for heavy makeup. And they are suitable for all skin types and conditions.

The fact that they can be washed up to 200 times, making them reusable and replacing more than 600 disposable pads, saving you more than 40% on cleansing wipes make them the perfect sustainable choice. To wash just use warm water and detergent, NO softener then hang to dry (oh, it has a little ribbon to do just that in your day-to-day). Also, the cool holographic packaging of the XL pads is reusable and recyclable.

Crystal Power Sonic Eraser, RRP £49.00

This device is designed with an amethyst crystal to stimulate skin’s fibroblasts (the major cells responsible for the production of collagen) to produce more collagen, which is crucial for skin regeneration. Together with the sonic vibrations it delivers a gentle massage that will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose, mouth and of sagging skin around the cheeks, jawline and neck.

The unique Far Infrared Rays (FIR) emitted by amethyst gently increase the skin’s surface temperature to aid in the healing process. This heat helps capillaries to expand and promotes good blood circulation and oxygenation and it’s anti-inflammatory. This will also help skin better absorb essential nutrients and nourishing ingredients from skincare, leaving you with brighter, more glowing skin. – Crystals and gemstones have been used in skincare routines for many centuries, and their healing properties are well documented. They vibrate at a higher frequency than our bodies and release mild electrical charges which can heat or cool the skin’s surface.-

The recommended use is 3-5 minutes a day as part of your daily skincare regime, after you apply your chosen serum, facial oil or moisturiser.

Make sure to clean it after each use, rinsing with warm water and drying thoroughly.

Bamboo Cotton Reusable Makeup Remover Pads, RRP £14.99 for a pack of 21

These K-Beauty inspired reusable makeup remover pads completely wipe off makeup and dirt whilst taking care of our environment. You can use them with your usual cleanser of choice but also to apply your toner (make sure the pad is moist beforehand to avoid excessive absorption of product by the pad) in lieu of the usual disposable cotton pads.

Made of bamboo cotton, they are naturally anti-bacterial, perfect for sensitive skin. The high quality organic bamboo cotton fabric is highly absorbent and deep cleanses, effectively helping remove makeup and impurities, making skin look and feel clean and glowing! They say bamboo is to cotton what cashmere is to wool, with a softer and more luxurious feel (and it is, if you’ve ever opted for anything made out of bamboo fibres over cotton, you know exactly what I’m talking about!). And since the fibres are made without any chemical treatment, they are naturally smoother and rounder with no sharp or jagged spurs to irritate the skin, making bamboo fabric perfect for those who have high sensitivity or experience allergic reactions to other materials.

This is a great chemical free, sustainable alternative to regular cotton pads, since they can be washed countless times, replacing more than 1000 traditional disposable pads, thus reducing landfill waste and helping you transition to a zero waste lifestyle!

Personally I’m totally in love with these and making them a staple in my kit also, to replace all disposables from here on out.

The idea is, you use one, you chuck it in the laundry bag provided and once that’s full, pop it in the washing machine with your whites, (at a decent warm temperature to help with sterilization) with some detergent, NO softener, then hang to dry.

In the pack together with the 21 pads and the free Laundry Bag you also get 3 Dermaplaning Blades (great if you love it or want to try it for the first time, and if you don’t, well, give it to that friend who does!).
