LDC X IRÉN Skincare

Once again the unique shopping outlet Lone Design Club brings us a brilliant beauty partnership with IRÉN Skincare to bring to us some of the best in J-Beauty and introduce us to their unique customised routine. I had the pleasure to attend their Virtual Launch, and via Zoom, watch them demonstrate and introduce the new range of products and have had the chance to try them for myself in the meantime and see the amazing results!

The Lone Design Club offers a unique shopping outlet that blends the online and in-store consumer purchasing experience. Cutting through the saturated market of fast-fashion, it connects independent, sustainable brands with like minded consumers that want to consciously purchase one of a kind items.

The brand name Irén was inspired by a scientist that was the 2nd Woman Nobel Prize winner in science, chemist Irén Joliot-Curie (Marie Curie’s daughter) who was also very dedicated to women’s rights, education, and empowering women through beauty and science.

The Creator of the brand is Kristin Chen, inspired by J-Beauty innovation, and a key feature to the products is the blend of technology and ingredients (natural and high-end).

Key features are customisation and a Zip-lock nano encapsulation technology in which one nano molecule is used for each active ingredient so each product can be mixed without contraindications as they won’t “fight” each other and a time release effect to allow for deeper skin penetration.

Packaging is a hands-free one touch dispenser method pipette with a touch button.

It’s 100% vegan and cruelty-free and each bottle lasts 1 ½ to 2 months using 2x a day.

The Sérums are recommended to use as a set of 3 with customisation.

Kristin focused on serums because other products are easier to find but good serums which will actually target specific concerns and deliver results are harder to find. Most optimal is up to 3 for ingredients to act and give results.

The range encompasses 7 serums and one facial cleanser.

Skin Reboot – The Antioxidant serum with Beetroot Extract -a natural antioxidant that helps skin retain moisture and aids in skin renewal, 4% Caffeine Solution – soothing and antioxidant, it can help reduce puffiness and redness and Astaxanthin – a naturally potent antioxidant found in microalgae which can help protect skin against UV damage.

Forever Young – The Anti-ageing serum with Goji Berry Extract – a superfood ingredient that helps to reduce wrinkles and prevent cellular damage, 10% Argireline Peptide Complex – Also known as Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, a substrate of the Botulinum Toxin (commonly known as Botox), this peptide helps to relax the muscles to inhibit the formation of wrinkles and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 – a peptide that helps to stimulate collagen production and repair skin tissue.

Glow Getter – The Renewal serum, with  5% Glycolic Acid – a type of AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), typically derived from sugarcane, that can gently exfoliate dead skin cells and increase collagen synthesis to improve the complexion, Pumpkin Seed Extract – rich in antioxidants, Vitamin E, Zinc and Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids that can help improve skin vitality and tone and Provitamin B5 – an essential vitamin for healthy skin. It protects the skin, stimulates the healing process and replenishes moisture.

Star Light – The Brightening serum with Yuzu Extract – a traditional Japanese ingredient that is naturally energising, brightening and is more effective than Vitamin C in keeping skin tone uniform and pigmentation even, 2% Alpha-Arbutin – a skin brightening and depigmenting agent derived from bearberries, cranberries or blueberries that can improve the appearance of dark spots and Niacinamide – a form of Vitamin B3 that works to lighten pigmentation by inhibiting melanosome transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes. Niacinamide and Alpha-Arbutin work together to form a powerful combination effective at targeting hyperpigmentation.

Keep Calm – The Soothing serum is great to reduce redness, with Avocado Extract – a great source of skin-replenishing fatty acids, it contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents to help heal and strengthen the skin, 1% Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate – a derivative from Liquorice Extract, it has powerful soothing and anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce redness and sensitivity and Cucumber Extract – an extremely soothing, refreshing and calming ingredient composed of 95% water which contains amino acids that lend it its soothing and emollient properties.

Quench Up – The Hydration serum contains Blueberry Extract – a natural and potent antioxidant with excellent moisturising properties, 4% NMF Solution – (NMF= Natural Moisturising Factor) in a combination of three different types of NMF constituents: Sodium PCA, Urea and Sodium Lactate, to keep skin protected and hydrated and Hyaluronic Acid – a moisture-binding ingredient that can replenish hydration to parched skin with water holding capacity of up to 1000 times its own weight.

Clearer Days – The Anti-Blemish serum contains Mangosteen Extract –  a natural fruit with anti-bacterial properties and calming benefits, 8% Niacinamide – a powerful antioxidant with anti-acne and anti-inflammatory properties that can regulate sebum and brighten skin and White Willow Extract – which contains anti-inflammatory natural salicylates (similar to Salicylic Acid) that can target acne and has soothing effects.

Start A-fresh Enzyme Powder Wash – With Japanese Rice Bran Enzyme and Kiwi Protease and Hyaluronic Acid. It’s a traditional J-Beauty staple for double cleanse with the first step being oil makeup remover and then powder cleanser for a very gentle wash.

It foams up when mixed with water and is gently polishing but not abrasive.

Follow up with serum after cleansing (no toner or essence). Personally, I still prefer to apply a hydrating mist after cleansing and before the serums. Since the recommendation is to work with damp skin, it’s best if it’s from a hydrating mist rather than tap water.

The range is trying to simplify the Japanese layering routine to the modern lifestyle so you have 3 serums that can be mixed and applied in one step.

The combinations can be customised as much as you need, but some suggestions are offered, for example, for Sensitive and dry skin, combine the Quench Up, Skin Reboot and Keep Calm Serums, if you’re looking for the full Anti-Ageing care, combine the Forever Young, Star Light and Skin Reboot Serums and for an anti-blemish treat on oily skin, combine the Clearer Days, Glow-Getter and Keep Calm Serums.

My Personal customised set was the Quench Up, Clearer Days and Keep Calm serums, as they target all my key concerns, being that my skin is oily/dehydrated and prone to sensitivity. They are very quickly absorbed on application and you really don’t need to use too much product. I’ve been using them long enough to start noticing some results, but the most immediately noticeable are how hydrated and soothed my skin feels straight away on application.

When mixing use half a pump and one pump when using the serums alone. Create combinations for AM and PM routines and change every 3 months.

Massage to help active ingredients go deeper into skin and become active and then press in moisturiser to “seal” in moisture and protect the skin barrier.

They also carry a Nano vaporiser device, which allows for a truly hands-off application (no hands on face). It works with ANY product and breaks everything down into smaller nanoparticles for easier skin penetration. It can also be used with foundation, the container inside can be filled with enough product for 2 weeks.

All serums are RRP £30.00 each, The Powder Wash is RRP £26.00 and the Nano Mist Spray Device is RRP £139.00, available at the Lone Design Club.
