GENDER IS AS FLUID AS THE ECHOED BRUSH STROKES IN THE LATEST SS22 MENS COLLECTION FROM ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

We explore the continued gender themes displayed in the latest SS22 Mens collection from Alexander McQueen.

We’ve seen gender fluidity reign supreme in recent years, showcasing more feminine shapes and silhouettes contrasted against bold and powerful tones and fabrics, so it’s not surprising that this is something that has become almost expected.

We’re all waiting to see the next statement of a man wearing a dress to push the gender boundaries, and yet, I personally believe that it’s in the subtlety of integrating these themes into everyday wear that we are truly going to make the biggest impact long term.

One brand that has cleverly introduced this into their already established style is none other than the show stopping Alexander McQueen. I personally applaud their ability season after season to maintain not only their signature tailoring, but to introduce new and innovative concepts and ideas, all whilst staying true to their British heritage and focus.

The latest SS22 collection is inspired by the English poet, painter, and printmaker, William Blake, who famously penned one of my favourite quotes of all time ‘to see a world in a grain of sand, and heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour’. These powerful words were Blakes masterful way of delivering themes and ideas of escapism to his readers, and that’s captured beautifully within the latest designs in this collection.

Showcasing zippers that allude to a release, ruffles that showcase freedom of expression, and painterly brush strokes that fluidly echo the gender boundaries being pushed. The collection effortlessly harnesses a light and airy feel, that is not only perfect for its season, but also allows you to feel uplifted, like escaping from the darkness, perhaps a theme that we are likely to see appear more over the coming season.
