TV & Film

If you want to know more about the top sporting movies of all time, then you have come to the right place. These movies have cemented their place in the movie hall of fame.

The Wrestler
If you don’t think that professional wrestlers are athletes then Mickey Rourke is about to prove you wrong. This movie tells the tale of an ex-superstar and he gets really beaten up whenever he puts on a show. The movie does a fantastic job at showing the contrast between the colourful costume he wears on the stage and the bleakness of his life out of the ring. His life starts to crumble around him and when this happens, you will soon see why this movie is ranked so highly.

North Dallas Forty
This movie is about the players and the management of the Dallas Cowboys. It’s a sports drama that doubles up as satire, and it tells the story of a corrupt professional football team. Sporting movies were meant to be rousing and inspirational but this movie helps to explore both sides. It’s an ode to the American style but at the same time, it also shows the downsides, which help to give the movie a perfect balance.

Endless Summer
This is quite possibly the greatest surfing movie of all time. If you haven’t seen it yet, then now is the time for you to change that. This movie shows the history of the sport as well as the terminology. You also have great scenes that are shot on the beach, with the director lending a lot of his experience to make every shot the best it can be. Endless Summer truly is a fantastic movie with so much to offer.

Murderball really does have all of the makings of a great movie. It is a feel-good documentary about quadriplegic athletes who are all able to find purpose in the thrill of finally being able to compete again. What makes this movie so great is that it focuses on wheelchair rugby. It also focuses more on the bloody rivalry that takes place between the Canadian and the US teams. Henry Rubin and the famous Dana Shapiro both lend a lot to the movie as well, so if you want something to keep you entertained then this is certainly the right option for you. If you want to get into the sport of rugby, or wheelchair rugby then it’s a good idea for you to look into the local rugby news, as well as reading up on the rules before you actually watch the movie. It is the best way for you to make sure that you get into the passion that the characters have in the movie.

Of course, these movies are the best ones that you should be watching if you are a fan of sports, not to mention that they are all classics too. These movies are best watched with friends, and you would be surprised at how much heart, and drama they have to offer.
