Over the last 12 months, the UK R&B scene has taken huge strides forward, thanks to a range to emerging artists climbing through the ranks. One vocalist who has stood out for her youthful and rather fun take on the genre, is Lydia Singer. As ironic as the name suggests, she has been refining her sound for years and as her latest single ‘Games’ suggests, she’s on the brink of something special.
At the young age of just 18, you’d be forgiven for thinking Lydia is new to all this. Instead, the reality shows a level of determination going back years. At 9 years old the journey started thanks to a local competition, “I remember I was super nervous, but I ended up winning! From there I got invited to do more local gigs and got given more opportunities including starting to write some of my own material professionally in the recording studio. I released my first EP called ‘Just Being 15’ when I was 15 and got 3 top 20 Music Week Club Chart hits which was so cool.”
Ranging from the stages of Ronnie Scott’s to BBC radio’s introducing channels, it doesn’t take a genius to see there’s only one direction the artist is heading in. Keeping the momentum going in her Latest single ‘Games’, Lydia tells the story of a past fling where she was fed up of ‘Games’ being played. The end product is a true dedication to knowing your worth, “it’s a track about being able to see right through someone’s sugar coated lies and telling them hell nah.”
Describing her music as a mix of “Pop and R&B” as well as “fun and fiery”, ‘Games’ gives us an insight into Lydia’s potential – something we’re going to see in full force in during the rest of 2020, “I hope that people will like listening to the rest of the songs that I’ve got coming out later this summer.” We can’t wait to see what comes next.
