I am always excited (and quite frankly flattered) when I am invited to a show or presentation from a designer, as for me it feels like an invitation into a part of their world, and it’s always exciting to see what that world looks like.

This show invitation was no exception, with thanks to Dyelog PR for the invite, Czech Centre London hosted the fabulous Power Of Identity II show at Japan House in Kensington on December 7th.
The show featured 12 of the top students from the Fashion and Footwear Design Studio at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) led by the extraordinarily talented Czech powerhouse designer Professor Libena Rochova.

I personally really enjoy graduate and student collections, because as a stylist I like to see raw untainted design without restrictions (as designers and their collections become more popular, you suddenly see designers feeling the restraints and pressures of maintaining profitability, so having to adapt to customers demands and criticisms to sustain popularity etc) and as an Editor, it provides me with an insight into what the future generations are thinking, and what the next curve in the industry could be.

I know I am not alone in this love, as Mr Fashion Scout himself, Martyn Roberts, was also spotted at the show, alongside many others, in fact, the downstairs space at Japan House was packed.

My standouts were Agata Seehakova – I adored the playful nostalgic elements which mirror alongside the flowing and elegant fabrics, Natalia Dufkova – these designs reminded me of marine life, and the shapes created with the layering and ruffles would create an editorial dream shoot!, and Natalia Nepovimova – these dark designs layered with the dramatic Gaga-style eyepieces make a fantastical fusion of elegant (and wearable elements) alongside a darker and edgier fashion edge.

Well done to everyone who showcased and I can’t wait to follow your progress…
