STASHER X BIRCHBOX: A SUSTAINABLE SUBSCRIBERS DREAM

Birchbox and Stasher Collaboration Brings Exciting New Offering to Subscribers

If you know me, you know I’m not currently much of a subscriber to beauty boxes, for no other reason than I usually ended up liking everything that I get sent and consequently spending way too much money on the full sizes later on. So for the sake of my wallet, I cancelled them! But they are a great way to try out new products before you commit to the full sizes or to decide if they are definitely not for you without having to spend to much on products you might end up not using and thus wasting it away. But I’m excited about this new collaboration!

Since 2010, Birchbox has redefined the way people discover and shop for beauty and grooming by pairing a monthly subscription of handpicked, customised samples with relevant content and a curated e-commerce shop. Birchbox’s trailblazing subscription concept quickly gave way to another innovative experience: engaging an overlooked, underserved consumer—a consumer who Birchbox calls “The Casual Consumer.” The casual consumer wants a simple, personalized way to explore their options. They want it to be easy, effortless, fun, results-driven—and they expect the same things of their beauty products.

This quickly became the company’s secret weapon. Today, Birchbox is more focused than ever on building the beauty casual destination. Birchbox operates in three countries, and reaches more than 2.5 million active customers with a portfolio of 300 best-in-class prestige brand partners and retail locations within select Sainsbury’s.

From this month, Birchbox replaces every April box with a reusable silicone Stasher bag, making it easier for subscribers to make sustainably-minded choices at home.

Monday 15th March 2021, London, United Kingdom – On this day, Birchbox partnered with Stasher, the platinum silicone alternative to single-use plastic bags, to create a sustainably-conscious box to be sold globally in the month of April.

The co-created April offering will arrive in a reusable Stasher bag—in place of the traditional box and as part of Birchbox’s commitment to ensuring at least 25% of their traditional boxes are reusable items. The UK environmentally conscious collaboration features products such as the following:

  • Greenfrog Botanic Shampoo Bar –  Solid shampoo bars are increasing in popularity in the UK as people try to cut down on plastic.
  • Huygens Organic Night Repair Oil –  A luxurious oil that contains 100% ingredients of natural origin and 25% ingredients produced from organic farming.
  • Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque – This invigorating mask is formulated with white clay from the Amazon rainforest.
  • Hydrating Booster of Algologie –  A brand committed to the environment, this product provides the ultimate rapid hydration with gelified water.

At Birchbox, we believe in our power to build the world we want to live in, and that starts with taking care of our planet,” said Katia Beauchamp, CEO and founder of Birchbox. “We’re on a mission to make beauty simple for our customers, and we’re thrilled to partner with Stasher so we can make it easy for them to incorporate sustainability into their lives, too.”

In 2016, Birchbox changed its packaging to be more sustainable—it is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, made with recyclable materials, and designed to produce almost zero waste. This partnership with Stasher is the next step in Birchbox’s journey as it focuses on making an impact when it comes to recycling, reusing and reducing waste.

Stasher is the endlessly reusable alternative to single-use plastic. Every Stasher is the radically functional silicone bag that changes the way people can cook, store and save. It’s the first platinum silicone bag with a patented Pinch-Loc™ seal that can safely go from the freezer to the microwave, oven or boiling water and cleans easily in the dishwasher. As a mission-driven company, a portion of sales from every Stasher goes directly to nonprofits like Surfrider Foundation that are on the frontlines of studying and tackling the ocean plastic crisis. To date, Stasher has reduced more than one billion single-use plastic bags from ending up in our waste stream.

To date in the UK, Stasher users have prevented around 50 million single-use plastic bags from entering the waste stream. They are the first-ever platinum silicone bag, and with their patented Pinch-Loc™ seal, this Earth Day-inspired collaboration will provide Birchbox’s community with an eco-friendly, easy-to-use storage solution for beauty essentials, food and anything else that needs saving.

We are thrilled to partner with Birchbox to provide a reusable solution to help subscribers save what matters,” said Shannon Morgan Stearns, vice president of marketing at Stasher. “We are excited to share our mission with a new audience and provide a simple alternative to single-use plastic.”

Birchbox has always considered its environmental impact, using post-consumer waste packaging, carbon offsetting, and helping consumers find products they know they’ll use to eliminate waste from full-size products. But they believe there is more to do. Birchbox’s partnership with Stasher is a pillar in their bolder commitment to sustainability. The company is making plans to divert waste from landfills, including its commitment that by 2025, 80+% of everything they produce will be recyclable.

We’re partnering with experts every step of the way, working with brands like Stasher that are leading the eco-conscious space. We’re excited about the sustainably-minded changes that are underway for us.” said Beauchamp.

There is a need for brands to innovate their packaging to save our planet and reduce waste.  We are thrilled to partner with Stasher as they provide something that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally effortless to use time and time again.” – Alex Vallbona, Birchbox President Europe
